The former activist who worked so hard to create the most important children?s education foundation in the United States, Reading is fundamental, is still having a legacy that?s compromised to aim the well-being of women in developing countries in the name of The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund.
Believing on educated woman as the main solution to end poverty they are inviting (since 2011) female students enrolled on masters degrees programs to participate for a student scholarship if they are attend on one of these universities in Latin America:
- Universidad Austral, Argentina
- Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico
- Universidad Cat?lica del Peru, Peru.
- Universidad Nacional de Colombia Colombia
- Universidad Rafael Land?var, Guatemala
- INCAE, Costa Rica and Nicaragua
- FLACSO.
This scholarship is offering $7,000,000 to be speeded on money for college, they offer to pay the degree?s tuition, and material its winners need. They also will pay for health insurance, daily?s expenses as a student and expenses she?d need if going to a research travel or studies related to her academic life.
To be able to participate on this program (which is part of a foundation that had given away more than $2 Million through grants for women), the woman may be committed to promote the well-being of women and children on her country as a representation of The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund. She?d be 25 years old, be a citizen of one of these countries, be enrolled to the universities mentioned on the previous list if she wins, she will be register for a year after earning the prize. The most important thing, she has to be a partial time or complete time student during one of these universities. The application closes on 22th August.

Now you may be asking: They are only offering grants for programs to be taken on Latino America? No, they also offer scholarships to be taken on the US, Canada and Africa. If you are thinking about going to Latino America with this scholarship program, do it. If you are engaged to help reduce poverty and to fight for women and their children?s right, do it. You can?t imagine a better place to study with this grant program where femicide rates are high, the machismo culture is practically attached to their normal routine and teenagers dropout school due to teen pregnancy. In addition, those are some of the best universities South America has, hence the journey to get a master degree will be incredible.
Dance in a Buenos Aires Tango?s studio, visit Machu Pichu?s or Chichen Itza?s ruins, go deep on Cartagena?s and Ometepe?s waters and see beautiful coffees plantation on Guatemala. All of these following Margaret McNamara?s legacy.
